Real Life Stories from Eritrea
A BIG THANKYOU FROM RELEASE
Eritrea is a small country in North East Africa. Many people have never even heard of it, let alone know about the injustice that is taking place there. We at Release would like to say a massive THANK YOU to all who signed the petition and who are praying for our Christian family there
So what have we all achieved??
January 15 2010 saw Release and Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali at the Eritrean Embassy in
London, then at 10 Downing Street to let both Gordon Brown and the Eritrean Ambassador know that we are aware of what is happening to Christains in Eritrea and we as Christians in the UK will not be silent.
The petition which was signed by 43,000 people, including many of you was presented to the Embassy and No.10 and calls for an end to imprisonment without trial and torture in Eritrea.
'This petition expresses concern for the Christians who are being kept in prison, in underground cells and shipping containers in the heat of the day and the cold of the night. It seems inhuman and barbaric,' said Bishop Michael, who resigned his post as Bishop of Rochester to campaign for persecuted Christians.
"43,000 is a lot of people. The Eritrean government
must take note of what all these people are saying.
Christians pose no threat to their country" Bishop Michael.

Please Continue to Pray
Christians in Eritrea are facing terrible injustices every day and still need our prayers:
Please pray they can continue to be courageous in the face of the persecution they face.Pray that God gives peace and strength to those who are in prison to keep true to their faith. Pray for the families of Christians in Jail that God will be close to them. Pray that the Petition causes both the British Government and the Eritrean Ambassador to take action to end the terrible treatment of people becuase of their faith in Eritrea.During his national service in Eritrea Bahta was detained in a military jail several times for reading his Bible. During one five-month period he was forced every day to spend 2 hours hill-running in the heat of the day, and then made to crawl on his stomach and elbows on gravel. On one occasion he was locked with two others in an open toilet. Bahta is now a refugee in Ethiopia.
